Loving Lyme

Loving Lyme Regis this week with its colourful beach huts.
Loving walking past and taking a sneaky peak inside each one.
Loving the way people take time and care to decorate them
Loving the vintage kitchen cabinets inside a couple of them.
Most of all I was loving enjoying them in the SUNSHINE!!
Now a little quiz for you...

In Lyme Regis it's National Lifeboat Week and these celebrations were going on on over the beach.
RAF parachutists dropped from a plane we could barely see - 12,000ft I think.
Free falling at 120mph.
Twizzling around in coloured smoke until somehow, who knows how but they made these amazing patterns in the sky.

Before descending rapidly onto the beach
 right in front of us!

Lovely to see the beach full of holiday makers making the most of the sun.
I took a wander past my most favourite place to live, a girl can dream,
 up onto Broad Street.
I left the jammers on the beach and had a lovely hour to myself mooching in the chazzas and gorgeous shops that Lyme offers. I nipped in to Ruby Rock Cake to see my friend Caroline but clean forgot to take any photos of her lovely stock. Do pop in if you're in the area as the shop is brimming with gorgeousness.

Love my littlest jammer in my big sunhat!

Time for a wander back to the car.
Hmmm - second favourite house? Well I could make do I suppose.
By the time we left at 7pm there were still lots of people making the most of the last few rays and who can blame them!
If you made it through to the end of this post, well done.
I hadn't realised what a lot of photos I'd taken.

Nowhere in particular

Two posts in two days? The weather must be good.
The sun is still shining here in beautiful Dorset, well not as I type at 10.30pm but it shone like mad earlier! We headed off to the beach again. It's funny how a bit of sun makes me go out and do stuff as I think I might not see any more this summer. This is summer enjoy it now. Make the most of it, it could be all over tomorrow.
Let me introduce you to Nowhere Island. I hadn't seen the news and didn't know what this was until we arrived at Bowleaze Cove in Weymouth.
Nowhere Island is part of the cultural olympiad. An artwork by Alex Hartley made from arctic soil and intended to make people think about how they would create a new nation. This video tells the story.
Accompanying the arctic island is its travelling embassy. This hosted all kinds of arctic artefacts hidden in drawers and cases. It was beautifully curated and I wish I'd taken some more photos of the converted horsebox! The little jammers enjoyed counting polar bears in the embassy and were pleased to find at the end of the day their total of 41 was the highest.
The embassy was manned by Ambassadors who were so enthusiatic for the project the jammers signed up to become citizens of the island. They got to ring the bell
and got taught a special Nowhere handshake type greeting!
So if you're in the area take a look and see what you think. A waste of public money or something to make people think and smile?
It's here until 2nd August then off around the South Coast.
More beach. More sun. More sand.
More hole digging.
 More sea!
Tomorrow... weather check... more of the same I think... it wont last long.

After rain

When deciding what to call this post I was reminded of these lyrics -
After rain, after rain
We can walk in green fields once again
 by the Oysterband
One of my favourite bands - just had to have a little listen whilst I typed.

So the weekend saw the sun arrive in Dorset and Littlest Jammer led us on a Sunday morning walk.
My sister was visiting from Amsterdam and is training for a trekking trip in October.
 The remains of the temple.
 View back toward Dorchester.
 The remains of the flood.
Little Jammer got a very very tall shoulder ride down.
Another blankety bunny making his way to Holland for baby Stan!
And the sun continues to shine...
I took the jammers and a little friend to Weymouth on the train yesterday.
Although I'm not a fan of busy beaches it was just so nice to be able to go and to have to get the suncream out!
More sun and sea tomorrow I hope!

Rain = making, sun = sea

I'm going to start with a ta-dah moment! I made this cot quilted blanket for a friend's new baby last Saturday whilst the rain bucketed down. The fabric is vintage Noddy teamed with a green polka dot for a more contemporary look and backed in cream fleece. It has been hard to find a sunny moment to take a photo.
Whilst I was about it I made a matching cushion for my unit at the antique centre.
Now a couple of weeks ago my bloggy friend Safia rang to very excitedly ask me if I'd seen the latest Country Homes and Interiors magazine. Well I hadn't so dashed out to find one. However I had to wait as Safia's had been delivered and it wasn't in the shops yet.
so, what had she spotted that I was so keen to see? Safia must be a bit of a hawkeye to spot these cushions and bunting and know they were mine!
They are indeed Jelly Jam cushions on display in a rather stunning shepherd's hut.
I met Jane from Plankbridge Hutmakers last year when she purchased my cushions and bunting for a Country Life photo shoot and here they are again. If only I had a beautiful hut to show mine off... it is my birthday this week and a girl can dream.
Mostly we've been trying to keep dry here but managed a swift trip to Portland Castle during a rare sunny moment.
English Heritage did a free day so we took advantage of that.
Soaking up a sunny moment on the Chesil on the way home.

Catching up

Sorry it's been a while. I'll blame it on the weather! No really it's true, all my photos look rubbish unless the sun shines.
Also, I've been on a little mini break, a child free long weekend courtesy of my dad. He took me to Amsterdam to stay with my sister. The occasion? A horribly large birthday that's hurtling towards me. I didn't take many photos but spotted Tintin's twin by a canal.
The event? My family's musical hero - Tom Petty. Tickets for England sold straight away, my dad booked himself one for Dublin and then hurrah my sister's boyfriend spotted an ad for an extra date in Amsterdam.
It was 20 years ago I first saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and then again in the late '90s so a much awaited, long overdue concert.
They did not disappoint and I've been indulging on you Tube ever since.
Thank you Dad! Thank you Layla! Thank you Pat!
There doesn't seem to have been much time for making around here but I did finish this baby blanket for a customer yesterday. The baby was due yesterday so nothing like cutting it fine.
Now whilst I was away this little parcel turned up from Jane at Teawagon Tales
Some lovely pieces of sheeting to make some patchwork cushions. Thank you Jane!
Earlier in the year you may recall I posted a picture of the top of my fridge each week. I tried to keep it topped up with signs of spring and a growing number of tins and teapots.
Well I'm not sure what happened, perhaps life took over but here is the fridge this week...
 Hmmmmm.
When there's nothing pretty there I tend to use it to dump the cardboard recycling before putting in the sack. Well, photographing my lazy habit shamed me into picking up some Stocks going cheap at the Co-op and I'm all inspired to keep tidy once more...
we shall see.
Promise to get back into the bloggy habit too. Welcome new followers. I've been amazed you've joined up even though I've not posted for ages - thank you!
